Tetrazine is a bioorthogonal reagent that undergoes rapid, catalyst-free cycloaddition with strained alkenes and alkynes. In particular, tetrazine reacts highly efficiently in a click chemistry reaction with TCO (trans-cyclooctene). Alexa Fluor dye attached to tetrazine allows for direct visualization of the target compound. Common applications of this compound include live-cell and fixed-cell imaging, high-throughput flow cytometry, and super-resolution microscopy.
