Description

Azide-labeled Chitosan conjugate is one of CBP’s clickable polysaccharides designed to react with dibenzocyclooctyne (DBCO)-containing molecules through copper-free click chemistry. Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide derived from chitin, the fibrous structural polymer that forms the exoskeleton of shellfish. It is widely studied in biomedical applications due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, low toxicity, and positively charged structure, which enables interactions with negatively charged cell membranes and genetic materials. These properties make chitosan a valuable material for drug delivery, where it can enhance drug stability, facilitate cellular uptake, and support controlled release.

Azide-functionalized chitosan provides a bioorthogonal click chemistry handle for conjugation with DBCO-containing molecules through copper-free SPAAC chemistry, or with alkyne-functionalized molecules through CuAAC chemistry.
